Wonderland Chocolate
Wonderland Chocolate was born out of a genuine craving for delicious, plant-based milk chocolate that didn't compromise on taste or joy. After adopting a plant-based diet in 2020 and struggling to find creamy, satisfying dairy-free chocolate, founders Kate Necklen and her husband Scott decided to make their own from scratch in Wellington's Lyall Bay. Kate brought two decades of brand-building experience to the project (with stints at Unilever, Public Trust, Tourism New Zealand and The Co-operative Bank), then taught herself the craft of plant-based chocolate making, eventually landing on cashew milk for its creamy mouthfeel without an overpowering nutty taste. Their bean-to-bar process starts with ethically sourced cacao beans from biodiverse farms in the Dominican Republic (sourced through Crafting Markets, where 20% of the registered farmers are women) and takes around three days to roast, refine and transform into smooth cashew milk chocolate, handcrafted caramels, bars and goodies. Named after a historic local amusement park, the brand embraces fun and flavour in every bite, with award-winning treats including their 2025 Vegan Chocolate Awards Supreme Winner Pineapple Chews.
