Art In My Wardrobe believes art is the world's universal language, and speaks that language through clothes, accessories and jewellery. Founded in 2015 by two fashion enthusiasts who once worked for luxury labels (with the brand's first chapter as an online store in South Africa and its latest chapter opening in New Zealand in 2023), the project began on a trip to a small village in India, where a handful of artisans were creating garments that felt like fluid poetry using age-old traditional techniques. Today, Art In My Wardrobe has its own workshop, its own little village of artists making beautiful clothes, jewellery and accessories by hand. Pieces are sometimes named after the artisans' daughters, a small gesture of respect to the future generation of makers. Every collection is unique, timeless and quietly stories - given the limited resources, rare skills and techniques used to create these pieces, they'll only ever belong to a handful of wardrobes. Mass production isn't their style, simply because it isn't how art is made. The final chapter of each piece is written by the wearer, who lends their own style to these works and gives them new life.
