The Swiss brand was founded by primary-school teacher Josef Steffen, a true pioneer who produced the very first gift wrap made in Switzerland. From a small bag and wrapping business in Wolhusen, Josef opened a mechanical envelope and paper bag factory, and Stewo went on to develop Stewo Lux - the first metallic paper - effectively inventing the modern gift wrap as we know it. More than 160 years on, the company is still based in Switzerland and still treats every roll like a small piece of design. Every idea starts on a blank sheet of paper.
